We are a newly established Dance Drama Society at UCLA, dedicated to conveying China's rich history and folk culture by incorporating classical and folk dance into intricate plot lines in the form of dance dramas. Our movements weave stories, guiding the audience to immerse themselves in the various regions, eras, and beliefs of the profound world of Chinese culture.

The Symbolism of Shan^9

​

In Chinese culture, "nine" symbolizes perfection and completeness, while "fan" is not only a dance prop but an embodiment of the unfolding of emotions. The opening and closing of the fan represent the beginning and end of a story; each time it opens, it's like turning a new page, revealing different historical chapters and cultural aspects. In the concept of SHAN^9, each "layer" represents an independent aspect, showcasing a piece of Chinese history and culture. These stories stack upon each other, like multiple layers of a fan gradually unfolding, forming rich historical textures and cultural depth, ultimately presenting a complete and enriched cultural panorama.

Every year we will produce a dance drama showcased in the form of a short film or music video. The contents may adapt classic excerpts from dance dramas or explore connections between independent pieces to showcase the diverse perspectives and forms of expression, conveying profound historical and cultural connotations. We may also hold live performances to bring you a spectacular audio-visual fiesta!

在中国文化中，“九”象征极致和完满，而“扇”不仅仅是舞蹈道具，更象征情感和故事的展开。扇子的开合象征着故事的开始与终结，每展开一次，就像翻开新的一页，揭示不同的历史章节与文化面貌。九重扇的构想中，每一“重”都是一个独立的层面，展示中国历史与文化的一段故事。这些故事层层叠加，如同多层扇面逐渐展开，形成丰富的历史纹理和文化深度，最终呈现一个完整而丰富的文化全貌。

我们的使命与呈现形式

我们将每年制作一场舞剧，并以微电影或MV的形式呈现制作成果。舞剧内容或改编经典的舞剧节选，或探寻独立剧目之间的联结，用一个完整的故事将它们逐一讲述，以展示多样的视角和表现形式，传递深邃的历史和文化内涵。如有机会，我们也会举办现场演出，为大家带来精彩的视听盛宴！
