Dai Dance (Peacock) -

Adapted from Yang Liping's "Spirit of the Peacock"

"Spirit of the Peacock," created by Yang Liping in 1986, is a dance work based on Dai folk dance, focusing on the basic image of the "peacock." By imitating various peacock postures, such as spreading wings, turning back, and pecking, through flexible joint movements of fingers, wrists, arms, chest, waist, and hips, the dance vividly portrays the peacock's static elegance and dynamic subtlety. Yang Liping captures the intrinsic rhythm and aesthetics of Dai dance, boldly incorporating modern dance elements to create a new dance vocabulary. This not only presents the lifelike image of the peacock to the audience but also creates a spiritual, noble life image. Every movement is filled with a love for life and the pursuit of beauty, expressing reverence for nature and life.
