Nuo Dance -
Selected from the dance drama "Da Jinzhi" (“Hitting the Princess”)
Nuo dance is one of the oldest Han rituals to the gods, originating from primitive totem worship. Since the Zhou Dynasty, it has been widely used in court rituals and major ceremonies to expel plagues and bring blessings that embody the wish for peace and good harvest. The "Nuo Dance" segment in the dance drama “Da Jinzhi” introduced elements of Nuo culture, in which dancers wear simple costumes, and mysterious masks to recreate the ancient ritual of dialogue with gods with solemn and powerful dance steps to the rhythmic beat of drums. This dance segment draws inspiration from the “Seven Virtues Dance” of China's national intangible cultural heritage Nuo Dance, incorporating the design of the Nuo Dance mask in “Pozhen Music”, showcasing the mysterious charm of Nuo culture and evoking a deep resonance with history and ancient beliefs.
